WHAT IS A BEE HIVE? with Walker Rollins

March 15 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Walker Rollins

Bee Tender

Regenerative Garden Practitioner and Teacher

Walker has been tending bees for twenty five years offering workshops, talks and a view into a ‘bee-centric’ approach to working with bees.

She tends bees at her home in Silverlake, Wild Seed Farm School, Apricot Lane Farms in Moor Park and Encino Solo, a bee sanctuary in Baja California.

“I am curious about all things Bee. From their ancient beginnings, their social world, how they live in the wilds of L.A. and the structures we build for them.

“I consider myself to be a systems thinking person who sees humans as a niche species, like all species on the planet we are defined by geography and ecosystems. Our ecosystem just happens to be the entire planet itself! “

“We are aware of the imbalance that bees are experiencing at this time in history. We are capable of creating change within the systems we have organized. Being with bees can inspire a deep connection to the natural world. By observing bees we gain an understanding of their wholeness, their society and their inter-relatedness to the world. I believe we can nurture the potential we have as a species to make good decisions for ourselves and our planet and bees can help us .

“It was through bee tending that I became a regenerative land steward/farmer and teacher. Understanding our current failing agricultural landscape I was drawn to the importance of rich healthy soil and plant diversity and how I might share that with others. Teaching at the Pasadena Waldorf School inspired my on going work with children.

What do I love most as a teacher?…

Seeing the children’s astonishment of a seed sprouting , a worm wiggling, the taste of a carrot, the heat of the compost, the blossom and the bee.

Perhaps what I can offer may have a lasting impression on our connection to our source and through this connection we can experience a love for what sustains us.

Without this love we may not consider how to care for the only home we have.

This is what we are thinking at One Strong Hive.
