ONIGIRI (rice-balls), the healthy Japanese fast-food
Onigiri, also known as omusubi, is the Japanese rice ball. It is one of the simplest yet most beloved of Japanese foods. Quick and easy to make, onigiri keeps well and is portable– great for school lunches! It is the perfect food for a quick bite between meals, or can be combined with soup and other items for a simple and filling meal. There’s a wide variety on the types & fillings– we will take you through the basic steps, and you will have a chance to make your own!

Hiroko Watanabe Valdez moved from Tokyo to Los Angeles 3 years ago where she is currently teaching Japanese and Japanese cooking.
Johanna Metzger has been living in Altadena for 10 years after moving from Tokyo with her family. With kids and school lunches, her brain space is occupied with eating that provides nourishment and wellness.
