Autumn Wild Food Outing & Forager’s Luncheon, with Scott Nelson

Join local Forager & Naturalist Scott Nelson and discover what you can eat wild & local! You will learn how to identify the abundant edibles that grow in our very own San Gabriel mountains. After a morning walking in nature in our beautiful Autumn, we will head over to Culture Club 101 to prepare and enjoy a Forager’s Luncheon!
FOCUS: Learning from the Trees:
Forests, Fire and Flavors.
In the morning we will identify and learn about various native tree species and aromatic herbs as we follow the Arroyo Seco into the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. The hike is relatively flat but the trail is rocky, with a few short uphill sections.
At 12 noon we will be returning to Culture Club 101 for our afternoon session and foraged luncheon! We will discuss different ways that our native plants can be used to create truly local, uniquely flavored dishes, then move into CC 101’s beautiful commercial kitchen to actually work with the ingredients. Wild sage blend with roasted cauliflower, free range beef dry rubbed with wild herbs and grilled in alder smoke, roasted salmon with rabbit tobacco… Is your mouth watering yet?
We will round your meal with a salad of seasonal greens, a delicious kraut, and a beverage of choice.
